Safety Inspector

Role overview

Amentum is hiring a Safety Inspector to support a distinctive U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The position is focused on building and maintaining a robust safety framework that aligns with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requirements, reduces risk, and supports safe and efficient operations.

What you will do

• Set up and run a safety program that complies with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual.
• Carry out routine safety checks and site monitoring to verify adherence to safety rules, operating procedures, and location-specific requirements.
• Document inspections and monitoring activity through detailed reports, including observations, findings, and follow-up actions.
• Look into incidents, produce clear incident reports, and recommend measures that help avoid repeat events.
• Update safety records for assets by revising, adding, or removing information as needed to keep documentation accurate and compliant.
• Perform hazard identification and risk assessments, then apply mitigation steps to protect people and property.
• Observe work areas to make sure required safety controls and equipment are in place and working properly.
• Support personnel through guidance, training, and safety awareness activities.
• Keep safety-related records complete, current, and aligned with company and regulatory expectations.
• Work with leadership, supervisors, and contractors so safety objectives support broader operational goals.

Minimum requirements

• Background in safety inspection, program execution, or a similar role, ideally in a government or military setting.
• Working knowledge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual and other relevant safety standards.
• Ability to create and maintain safety inspection reports, incident documentation, and asset safety records.
• High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
• Solid understanding of hazard recognition, risk evaluation, and corrective action planning.
• Strong organization and analytical ability, with careful attention to detail in documentation.
• Comfort using basic computer tools and safety record-keeping software.
• A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally are required.
• Passport validity must extend to at least one year at the time of hiring.
• Must be able to pass contract medical screening and remain compliant with medical requirements throughout deployment.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or another related technical field.
• Credentials such as OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• Experience in austere OCONUS environments working with multinational teams.
• Strong training and presentation capability, especially for safety awareness initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups.

Additional responsibilities and compliance expectations

All team members are expected to contribute to a strong safety culture by continuously supporting a safe workplace, completing required training, taking part in self-aid and buddy-aid duties when needed, joining emergency response activities, and serving on safety committees and teams.

Employees are also expected to follow the company’s Quality Policy, comply with Quality System documentation and customer contract requirements, and understand their responsibilities related to quality management and customer satisfaction.

In addition, staff must read, understand, and follow all general and job-specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental procedures, plans, and policies that apply to the role.
