Project Director

Role overview

Datacenter People is seeking a Project Director to lead the full delivery of mission-critical facilities in Berlin, Germany. The role carries overall ownership of the project from land acquisition through design coordination, budgeting, commissioning, and final handover. This position is site-based.

Key responsibilities

• Set the project direction, define key objectives, obtain capital approval, and put the overall delivery plan in place.
• Source and oversee multidisciplinary consultants, general contractors, and specialist vendors so their work stays aligned with project goals.
• Control large-scale capital budgets, manage contracts, negotiate changes, and maintain strong financial discipline throughout the project.
• Work closely with mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural teams to ensure the data centre design meets hyperscale expectations, Tier standards, and efficiency targets.
• Lead commissioning and handover activities to ensure systems are tested, compliant, and prepared for IT equipment installation before transfer to operations.
• Maintain project risk logs and make sure health, safety, environment, and quality standards are consistently upheld on site.

Requirements and qualifications

• Background in commercial, infrastructure, or mission-critical construction, with substantial experience specifically delivering data centres.
• Strong technical understanding of critical mechanical systems such as HVAC and chiller plants, and electrical systems such as UPS, generators, and BMS.
• Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across different locations and serve as the main point of contact between senior leadership and contractors.
• Demonstrated commercial strength in procurement, contract negotiation, and project forecasting.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management.
