Role overview

This full-time permanent position is based in Essex and offers a salary of up to £38,000 per year, along with a company van and fuel card. The working pattern is 42.5 hours per week, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

The role involves carrying out a broad range of maintenance and repair work in void and domestic properties, helping deliver high-standard repairs and installations across social housing homes. It is suited to someone dependable, multi-trade competent, and committed to completing work correctly and efficiently.

What you will do

• Handle day-to-day responsive repair work in occupied social housing homes.
• Repair or replace skirting, architraves, and internal door frames.
• Fit and adjust kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors.
• Fix or change internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges.
• Deal with small plumbing faults such as leaks, dripping taps, and blocked sinks.
• Carry out patch repairs to plaster and make good damaged walls and ceilings.
• Complete wall and floor tile repairs, including grouting and sealing.
• Paint and decorate to a professional finish after repair work is completed.
• Make sure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
• Work in occupied homes with care, respect, and sensitivity to residents’ privacy and needs.
• Raise any additional repair requirements, safeguarding issues, or property concerns outside your scope.
• Provide excellent customer service while working inside residents’ homes.
• Record job information, materials used, and completion details accurately using handheld devices or job sheets.
• Look after tools, equipment, and the company vehicle so they remain in good condition.
• Organise daily tasks effectively to meet service targets.

What the employer is looking for

• Demonstrable experience in domestic repair and maintenance work across several trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and decorating.
• A full UK driving licence.
• The ability to work on your own and manage your workload well.
• Strong troubleshooting and practical problem-solving ability.
• Good customer service skills and experience working in occupied homes.
• Solid understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working methods.
• Comfort using handheld devices or job management systems to log work.

Eligibility and conditions

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available. To drive a company vehicle, you must be over 21 years old, have held your driving licence for more than 3 months, and have fewer than 9 penalty points.
