Company overview
Qippay helps businesses take customer payments straight from bank accounts, enabling funds to move within minutes instead of waiting days and avoiding card network dependency. Built on open banking technology, the company delivers secure, efficient payment and data products through PayBy, SetPay, AnyPay, and Check.
Rather than operating through traditional payment rails, Qippay uses its own bank-direct infrastructure backed by bilateral arrangements with major New Zealand banks and no unnecessary middle layers. The business is accredited under New Zealand’s open banking framework and remains independently owned, which keeps its priorities closely aligned with the merchants it supports.
Its solutions are built for ecommerce merchants, enterprises, SaaS platforms, and subscription businesses that collect payments in New Zealand and are looking for quicker settlement, reduced costs, and more control over the payment journey.
Role summary
Qippay is looking for a Merchant Solutions Consultant to join the Auckland team in a full-time hybrid position, with flexibility to work part-time from home.
In this role, you will partner with prospective and current merchants to understand their payment requirements, showcase Qippay’s offerings, and shape customised solutions on the open banking platform. You will own the sales and solutions process end to end, covering discovery, consultation, solution design, proposal creation, negotiation, and transition to implementation teams.
On a day-to-day basis, you will prepare and run product demonstrations, assist presales efforts with clear technical and commercial documents, and work alongside product and engineering teams to improve Qippay’s products based on merchant feedback. You will also keep opportunities updated in the CRM, review merchant portfolio performance, collect insights from the market and customers, and support go-to-market activities.
This position is commercially driven and blends consultative selling, payments expertise, product knowledge, and account relationship management. It suits someone who can explain complex payment technology in simple terms and show merchants the business value behind it.
Qualifications
- Experience in consulting and presales, with the ability to convert sophisticated payment concepts into clear commercial value.
- A strong background in sales, preferably across payments, fintech, SaaS, or B2B technology, with a history of achieving or surpassing targets.
- Good analytical ability, including reviewing payment data, building business cases, and advising merchants with performance insights.
- Project coordination skills, especially around onboarding, timeline management, and smooth implementation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, plus confidence presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Prior exposure to ecommerce, subscription, SaaS, or enterprise customers in New Zealand.
- Knowledge of open banking, payments, financial services, or merchant acquiring is beneficial.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, technology, or a similar discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- A self-motivated, collaborative approach and the ability to work well in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
Working arrangement
This is a full-time onsite role based in Auckland, with hybrid flexibility and the option to work part-time from home.
