Overview

Handshake is hiring Mathematics PhDs for flexible, hourly contract work that supports AI research. This opportunity is designed for experts who can help assess AI-generated mathematical content and offer detailed feedback. The focus is on improving how AI handles mathematical reasoning, proof development, and technical problem-solving.

This is a project-based engagement rather than a conventional academic role or permanent full-time position. It can fit alongside doctoral research, teaching duties, postdoctoral appointments, or work in industry.

Role details

• You will apply your mathematics expertise to create challenging, field-specific questions and to evaluate AI responses for correctness, consistency, and rigorous mathematical reasoning.
• No background in AI or technical tools is needed before starting.
• The work is fully remote, asynchronous, and flexible, with no minimum weekly hour commitment. When projects are active, contributors typically spend about 5 to 20 hours per week.
• Placement is based on current project demand, and qualified contributors may be considered for future assignments as they open up.

Qualifications

• Applicants should be doctoral candidates or graduates in Mathematics or a closely related discipline, including those currently pursuing a PhD or working in a postdoctoral role.
• A strong command of advanced mathematical reasoning, proof construction, and formal logic is required.

Work authorization

F-1 students who qualify for CPT or OPT may be considered for this work, subject to confirmation with their Designated School Official. If a school requires a CPT course, this opportunity may not satisfy that requirement. STEM OPT is not supported.
