Joinery Floor Supervisor

The Joinery Floor Supervisor reports to the Training Centre Manager and oversees the daily running of the joinery workshop in a training-centre setting. The role includes guiding apprentices, keeping tools and machinery operating safely and efficiently, and helping deliver a strong training programme. The supervisor also serves as an important point of contact between apprentices, instructors, and management, while helping maintain a positive, inclusive environment and ensuring compliance with health and safety rules.

This role is mainly based on site in the training centre workshop, where the supervisor works closely with apprentices and staff. Some evening or weekend work may be required at times to support ongoing supply for projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day activity on the joinery workshop floor and make sure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
• Help produce high-quality training outputs and products for projects across the business.
• Track apprentice development, offer practical support and constructive feedback, and assist with hands-on assessments.
• Keep equipment in good condition, maintain workshop cleanliness, perform routine safety checks, and escalate maintenance needs.
• Support planning and delivery of training activities so they align with curriculum expectations.
• Approve on-the-job stages in accordance with SOLAS apprenticeship requirements.
• Apply health and safety rules, complete risk assessments, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
• Arrange materials, monitor stock, and coordinate supply ordering when needed.
• Encourage a respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning culture that promotes teamwork and skill growth.
• Prepare progress updates and share apprentice achievements or concerns with management.
• Complete SOLAS on-the-job documentation accurately and on time for apprentices.

Requirements

• Proven background in joinery or carpentry, preferably in a workshop environment.
• Experience using CAD software is an advantage.
• QQI Level 6 Craft Certificate in Carpentry or Joinery.
• Full, clean driving licence.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to support, guide, and motivate apprentices.
• Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Solid understanding of health and safety practices in a workshop setting.
• Ability to handle resources and juggle several tasks effectively.
