Role overview
This Industrial Engineer position focuses on capacity planning within the Continuous Improvement and Industrial Engineering function. The role supports designated business areas by taking ownership of capacity models, keeping operating assumptions current, and providing decision support for weekly capacity reviews, monthly rough-cut capacity planning, and annual long-range planning.
You will work across labour and equipment capacity, comparing actual operational performance with planning assumptions, spotting constraints and bottlenecks, and carrying out scenario analysis when required. The role is centred on model ownership, assumption control, bottleneck analysis, and capacity modelling, while also contributing to improvement initiatives where capacity expertise adds value.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of the assigned capacity models and the related operating assumptions for labour and equipment planning.
- Keep models updated and continuously improved for weekly capacity reviews, monthly RCCP, annual LRS, periodic assumption checks, and ad hoc scenario work.
- Review actual operational performance against planning assumptions and identify capacity limits, bottlenecks, utilisation gaps, and other factors that influence planning.
- Apply proper governance to the models through assumption reviews, data checks, refresh validation, documentation, and change control.
- Present capacity outputs, model updates, assumption drivers, and scenario findings confidently to functional management, Supply Chain, and CI stakeholders.
- Improve model quality by increasing input accuracy, simplifying table structures, automating source-system feeds, speeding up scenario analysis, and expanding capacity detail where useful.
- Bring capacity-planning expertise into kaizen events, problem-solving activities, and improvement identification when labour, equipment, or bottleneck analysis is needed.
- Help shape team standards for model governance, operating assumptions, data structure, and capacity-planning methods.
- Carry out other assignments or projects given by the Continuous Improvement and Industrial Engineering Lead.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business Analytics, or a similar discipline is required.
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in industrial engineering, capacity planning, manufacturing, supply chain, operations planning, business analytics, or a comparable operational setting.
- Strong Excel skills, including structured tables, formulas, workbook maintainability, and clear reporting outputs for business review.
- Working familiarity with Power Query and the ability to refresh and use existing query-enabled models.
- Experience with labour loading, labour utilisation, equipment loading, capacity assumptions, or similar operational planning analysis.
- Proven ability to solve ambiguous problems, investigate changes in models or performance, and turn findings into practical recommendations.
- Comfort presenting analysis, assumptions, and outputs independently to functional stakeholders.
- Preferred experience includes editing Power Query queries and cleaning or combining structured source data.
- Preferred exposure to planning and ERP tools such as SAP, RapidResponse, or comparable systems.
- Preferred background in maintaining capacity models, resource models, scenario tools, or planning models driven by assumptions.
- Preferred experience improving automation, source-system feeds, table structures, data validation, or documentation for models.
- Preferred exposure to bottleneck analysis, sensitivity analysis, queuing, simulation, Factory Physics, Theory of Constraints, or flow analysis.
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Green Belt, or equivalent practical continuous-improvement experience is preferred.
- The role calls for strong ownership, accuracy, curiosity, structured thinking, and disciplined documentation.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a matrix environment with site, network, divisional, and functional stakeholders.
