About the role

Enerveo is looking for a Highways Lighting Operative to join its Leeds-based team on a permanent full-time basis. The company has spent more than 25 years delivering work across street lighting, with services spanning design, project management, consultancy, installation, and maintenance. Its work supports safer, smarter, greener towns and cities by helping reduce energy use and carbon emissions.

The role is offered with a salary starting at £25,877 for candidates without an HGV licence and £27,011 for those with an HGV licence, depending on skills, experience, and working hours. A Time Incentive Management (TIM) bonus scheme is also available, along with additional benefits for family, financial wellbeing, and general support.

The standard working pattern is Monday to Thursday from 7:00am to 3:00pm, and Friday from 7:00am to 2:30pm. Overtime is available for those who want to take it on.

What you will do

In this position, you will help install, maintain, and repair highway lighting systems, including streetlights, traffic signs, and other street furniture.

  • Drive and operate a HIAB HGV to move, lift, and place lighting columns, bollards, and traffic signs.
  • Fit street lighting columns and related non-electrical street furniture.
  • Carry out excavation, groundwork, and foundation preparation for installation work.
  • Take down and replace damaged or outdated columns, bollards, and signs.
  • Use hand tools and plant machinery to complete work to the required specification.
  • Work alongside colleagues to plan site activity and reduce disruption to traffic and pedestrians.
  • Follow health and safety rules and site procedures at all times.
  • Record job details accurately using handheld devices.
  • Perform daily checks on vehicles and equipment to confirm they are safe to use.

What you need

Enerveo is seeking someone with previous experience in civils, fibre, or construction work, together with strong hands-on ability and a practical approach to site operations.

  • Prior experience in highways, construction, or civils-based work.
  • Solid practical skills, including excavation work.
  • Good knowledge of site safety and safe systems of work.
  • Experience using CAT & Genny equipment.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work quickly while still maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Basic IT ability for logging work on handheld devices.
  • Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Desirable experience and qualifications

  • IPAF, PASMA, or HERS certification.
  • Experience operating a HIAB crane.
  • Valid Class 2 (Category C) HGV licence.
  • G39 Electrical Safety Training.
  • Background in public lighting, highways maintenance, or infrastructure work.
  • HIAB (ALLMI) certification.
  • NRSWA street works qualification.
  • Understanding of HSG47 safe digging practices.
  • Experience installing lighting columns and carrying out associated groundwork.

Training and support

Candidates who are strong but do not yet hold every desirable qualification may still be considered. Enerveo is willing to help the right person gain relevant industry training and certifications where needed.

Equal opportunity and application process

Enerveo encourages applications from people who may not meet every requirement but believe they can contribute to the role. The company aims to provide a safe and respectful workplace where different backgrounds and experiences are valued.
