Role overview
Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools is hiring a temporary Head Custodian for St. John Paul II Collegiate in Okotoks, Alberta. This is a full-time onsite role with a 40-hour workweek and is currently expected to run through December 2026. The assignment has been posted to fill a temporary staffing need, and the length of the placement may change depending on operational requirements, which could mean an earlier finish or a longer extension.
What you will do
- Lead and encourage the custodial team while maintaining strong standards for cleanliness, safety, and staff well-being.
- Arrange schedules and backfill coverage for absences, and complete timesheets according to division guidelines.
- Monitor building, grounds, mechanical systems, and security through daily, monthly, and annual checks to keep operations running smoothly.
- Carry out custodial and caretaking work that supports a tidy, secure, attractive, and functional learning environment.
- Deliver safety and equipment training, run staff meetings, and help ensure compliance with divisional safety requirements.
- Raise work orders, track supply levels, and make sure custodial tools and equipment are used and maintained properly.
- Handle emergency call-ins and either solve facility issues directly or escalate them when needed.
- Support seasonal tasks such as snow clearing, grounds checks, and light landscaping work.
- Complete small repairs such as changing lightbulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, touching up paint, and tightening or securing fixtures.
- Tackle other duties as assigned to meet changing operational needs.
Qualifications and preferences
Preference will be given to candidates who bring the following:
- A high school diploma or an equivalent credential, which is required.
- Experience supervising custodial staff, which is required.
- Well-developed skills in organization, planning, and time management.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and other Windows-based software.
- A valid driver’s licence and dependable transportation.
- The physical capacity to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights of up to 10 meters using ladders or lifts.
- Exposure to or knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or mechanical systems, which is considered an asset.
- A strong focus on safety, collaboration, and ongoing improvement.
