Educational Assistant

Position Overview

The Educational Assistant supports Playground Recreation Program sites by planning and delivering learning and recreation activities, while helping keep children safe and well cared for. The role also provides dependable support to senior staff as needed.

This is a safety-sensitive position and includes random drug and alcohol testing.

The appointment is unclassified and at-will, with part-time temporary status. Employment is limited to a maximum of two years from the hire date and will end automatically at that point under City policy.

Essential Functions

• Help plan and deliver age-appropriate educational activities that support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
• Work directly with children to strengthen developmental skills.
• Assist in evaluating children’s progress and needs, and discuss any educational concerns with the appropriate staff.
• Support the setup and organization of indoor and outdoor spaces to encourage developmental learning.
• Help maintain a safe, healthy learning environment in both indoor and outdoor settings.
• Assist with ordering and maintaining supplies and materials used for educational activities.
• Provide guidance and information to program participants.

Supplemental Duties

• Carry out Recreation Leader responsibilities when needed or assigned.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, plus 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including 15 non-remedial credit hours in Math and English.

Working Conditions

Environment: Work takes place in classroom and outdoor settings, with possible exposure to communicable diseases and noise.

Physical Demands: The role may require walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, along with moderate or light lifting.
