Role Overview
The Design Engineer will create technical drawings, engineering solutions, and production-ready documentation for luxury retail fixtures, visual merchandising displays, custom furniture, signage, and experiential structures at the Tijuana, Mexico production facility.
This position suits someone who blends design sensibility with strong technical and manufacturing knowledge. The work must meet aesthetic expectations while also being structurally dependable, economical to produce, and suitable for fabrication. The role involves close collaboration with design, project management, procurement, and production teams to keep projects moving smoothly from concept through manufacturing and installation.
Responsibilities
- Produce detailed technical drawings and manufacturing documentation for all assigned projects.
- Translate creative concepts into practical, buildable, production-ready solutions.
- Prepare shop drawings, fabrication drawings, bill of quantities, and material specifications.
- Work with production departments such as carpentry, metal, acrylic, painting, and assembly.
- Check that designs are structurally viable and optimized for efficient, cost-conscious manufacturing.
- Support project managers and production teams during fabrication and on-site installation.
- Select materials and hardware in line with design intent and budget constraints.
- Create 3D models, renderings, and technical presentations when needed.
- Spot opportunities to improve designs and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with clients, visual merchandising teams, and designers to deliver high-end results.
- Make sure all work aligns with brand standards, technical requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Assist with prototype development and testing.
- Keep drawings updated and maintain control over technical document revisions.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Architecture, or a closely related field is preferred.
- 5 to 10+ years of experience in retail fixture design, visual merchandising production, custom fabrication, signage engineering, furniture manufacturing, or exhibition/event production.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing methods and materials.
- Hands-on experience preparing production drawings and shop drawings.
- Prior exposure to premium retail or luxury brand projects is an advantage.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Rhino, Fusion 360, or comparable design tools.
- Strong working knowledge of woodworking, metal fabrication, acrylic fabrication, lighting integration, hardware systems, and finishing materials.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and architectural drawings.
- Good engineering judgment and problem-solving ability.
- High attention to detail with a strong luxury-quality mindset.
- Capable of managing several active projects in a fast-moving, deadline-focused environment.
- Clear communication and coordination skills across design, production, and project management teams.

- A Christmas bonus (Aguinaldo) is provided in line with Mexican Federal Labor Law.
- Vacation leave follows Mexican Federal Labor Law.
- Annual airfare is provided after 2 years of continuous employment.
Location and Work Mode
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Tijuana, Mexico. Remote work is not available for this role.
