Role Summary
The Shift Incharge - Import Logistics is accountable for managing import operations in a compliant, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The role covers shipment documentation, transport coordination, duty optimization, payment processing, and customs adherence, while ensuring smooth communication with all relevant stakeholders and keeping inventory-related movement on track.
Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain an organized system for shipment records, ensuring documents are filed correctly and can be retrieved easily.
- Arrange transport from the port to the plant, including vendor quote collection and e-way bill generation.
- Make the best use of advance licenses, IGCR, and EPCG provisions for capital goods, with a target utilization of at least 90% to improve cost efficiency.
- Raise Duty Payment Requests in a timely manner and work with the finance team to plan duty outflows accurately.
- Handle advance payments to Customs House Agents and coordinate duty-related financial processing.
- Ensure import documentation and customs procedures are fully compliant, with no defects in Bill of Entry submissions and timely duty payment to avoid interest charges.
- Reduce clearance delays and associated costs, keeping penalties within 0.5% of material value by ensuring shipments move without avoidable detention.
- Support advance BOE filing so that sea shipments are cleared within 7 days and air shipments within 3 days.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams such as Imports, Warehouse, Procurement, and Finance, as well as external partners including Customs Authorities, Freight Forwarders, Customs Brokers, and Importers.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a similar discipline is required.
- Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of experience in import logistics or a related function.
- Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience managing import operations and maintaining compliance.
Key Performance Targets
The position is expected to deliver strong document control, efficient shipment movement, effective duty planning, and strict customs compliance. Operational outcomes include maximum use of eligible duty schemes, zero-defect BOE submissions, avoidance of interest on delayed duty payments, and minimal detention or penalty exposure.
Stakeholders
Internal: Lead - Imports, Warehouse Team, Procurement Department, Finance Team.
External: Customs Authorities, Freight Forwarders, Customs Brokers, Importers.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
3-5 years in import logistics or a similar area.
