Core Duties

  • Check tariff classifications against the customs paperwork to ensure accuracy.
  • Keep the internal clearance register current and organized.
  • Make sure every step of the clearing process aligns with customs and local legal requirements before, during, and after shipment processing.
  • Work closely with airline, shipping line, supplier, and contractor contacts to keep shipments moving smoothly and in line with SOPs and customer expectations.
  • Prepare customs paperwork and upload/publish it to the web server.
  • Initiate requests to finance for duty and tax payments.
  • Prepare and file manifests for all shipments.
  • Track shipment progress and update company tools such as the Ops log and Cargo Wise according to internal business rules.
  • Follow up with shipping companies to obtain arrival notices.
  • Handle submission of export documents.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers to get the latest status updates on cleared shipments.
  • Support the physical dispatch of shipments when required.
  • Arrange delivery of shipments to customers in line with standard procedures and customer requirements.
  • Apply for all customs-related permits needed for clearance.
  • Review customer-submitted invoices for accuracy.
  • Assist with Delivery Orders in the PCS (Port Community System).
  • Identify non-conformities and report them so process improvements can be developed in your area.
  • Carry out other operational tasks relevant to the role.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is the minimum academic requirement.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a similar role is required.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office is needed.
  • Familiarity with AFR and OFR operations, including handling, documentation, and customs clearance, is expected.
  • Applicants should be able to prepare Customs Declarations for both imports and exports.
  • Ability to confirm tariff classifications with Jamaica Customs is required.
  • Strong understanding of customs laws, procedures, and regulations is essential.
