About the Company

Rodan Energy is a North American provider focused on distributed energy resources and energy intelligence. The business oversees more than 1,400 MW of flexible capacity across Ontario, NYISO, PJM, MISO, and AESO. It works with large energy consumers, utilities, and grid operators to develop, fund, and run high-value DER solutions such as asset optimization, demand response, metering, and power system engineering.

Role Overview

The Controller is a senior finance leader who will own the daily accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and internal control functions for all entities within Rodan Energy Solutions. Reporting to the Director, Finance, this person will manage the full accounting cycle end to end, including transaction processing, month-end close, consolidation, statutory compliance, audit support, and controls, while also improving systems, processes, and automation to help the function scale.

This role partners closely with the Director, Finance and FP&A to ensure management reporting is supported by accurate, timely, and well-documented financial information.

Financial Reporting and Close

  • Take ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for all entities, with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Preserve the integrity of the general ledger, subledgers, and all supporting schedules.
  • Draft and review advanced journal entries, accruals, intercompany items, and accounting corrections.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and the review workflow.
  • Prepare and examine consolidated financial statements and related support schedules in accordance with ASPE.
  • Set close calendars, assign responsibilities, and establish review checkpoints.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee the daily accounting activities for AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, and cash management.
  • Supervise settlement accounting and payment workflows to ensure they are complete, accurate, and properly approved.
  • Review cash movements and short-term liquidity needs to support payment execution.
  • Make sure accounting policies are applied consistently across entities, revenue streams, and business lines.
  • Work with Operations, Sales, HR, and other teams to confirm source data is accurate and complete.

Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Build, implement, and maintain a robust internal control environment across the business.
  • Keep the company audit-ready through strong documentation and reconciliations.
  • Manage day-to-day compliance for Canadian and U.S. indirect taxes, payroll taxes, and statutory filings.
  • Prepare lender reports, covenant calculations, and compliance certificates.
  • Keep accounting policies, procedures, and control documentation current and continuously improving.

Audit, Tax, and External Stakeholders

  • Run the annual external audit and year-end review process from start to finish.
  • Coordinate Canadian and U.S. corporate tax filings with outside advisors.
  • Serve as the main finance contact for auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other external parties.
  • Support legal entity restructuring, intercompany arrangements, and related compliance work.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team with clear accountability and strong execution standards.
  • Create role clarity, backup capacity, and cross-training to reduce key-person dependency.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee development.
  • Promote a culture built on ownership, discipline, and continuous learning.

Process Improvement, Systems, and Automation

  • Improve finance processes and workflows continuously to reduce manual effort and strengthen controls.
  • Drive the use of automation, system integrations, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Partner on ERP and finance systems implementation, including process design, testing, and controls.
  • Contribute to a finance operating model that grows through stronger processes rather than linear headcount increases.

Business Partnership

  • Work closely with the Director, Finance and FP&A to ensure actual results are accurate and aligned with management reporting.
  • Provide accounting guidance on contracts, pricing models, new products, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support due diligence, financing activities, acquisitions, and other special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation is required.
  • 8 to 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial controllership or senior accounting leadership exposure.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge under ASPE.
  • Demonstrated experience managing month-end close, external audits, internal controls, and statutory compliance.
  • Strong background in multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidated financial reporting.
  • Experience with Canadian and U.S. entity accounting plus cross-border tax and compliance is strongly preferred.
  • Practical experience with modern ERP systems, workflow tools, and process automation.
  • Experience in energy, infrastructure, or similarly complex operating environments is an asset.

Skills and Competencies

  • Very high standards for accuracy, control, and audit readiness.
  • Strong systems mindset with a natural inclination to automate and streamline work.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in the details while also leading a finance function.
  • Clear, confident communication with senior leaders, auditors, lenders, and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proven people leadership skills with the ability to develop talent and raise performance.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-moving, multi-entity environments with competing priorities.
  • Proactive, solution-focused, and comfortable with significant accountability.

Location and Work Setup

This role is hybrid, based at the Mississauga head office, with three days per week expected onsite.

  • Group RRSP with employer matching
