Role overview
An opportunity is available to join the Rampton psychology team as an Assistant Psychologist, helping to strengthen the psychological support provided to clients within the National Learning Disability service.
This role sits within a busy and energetic team of qualified psychologists and assistant staff, and the successful candidate will work under the direction and supervision of qualified clinical or forensic psychologists across one or more clinical teams.
What you will do
Working under supervision, you will contribute to specialist psychological assessment and therapy services for ward-based clinical teams within the hospital. You will also provide input on patients’ psychological care to colleagues who are not psychologists, while working independently where appropriate and always in line with professional standards, Rampton Hospital policies, procedures, and service priorities.
You will take part fully in multidisciplinary clinical teams and support service delivery to patients. The post is designed to help you build knowledge and practical skills in forensic clinical psychology, particularly in the assessment and treatment of patients within relevant services. You will also use research skills to support audit activity, policy and service development, and research within the allocated service area.
Assessment and intervention
You will carry out highly specialist psychological assessments for patients in the National Learning Disability service. This will involve selecting, interpreting, and combining complex information from several sources, including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report tools, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observation, and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in their care.
You will also support the delivery of a range of psychological interventions, both individually and in groups, across and within teams. As part of this, you will help refine psychological formulations using different explanatory models and keep several working hypotheses in mind.
Professional and record-keeping duties
You will be expected to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based care in line with professional codes of conduct and trust policies and guidelines.
You will also maintain accurate records of care and treatment in accordance with trust requirements.
