Role Overview

The Assistant Manager – ESG will lead sustainability and ESG advisory work, support assurance assignments, and help clients respond to evolving reporting and disclosure expectations. The role also involves coaching junior team members, contributing to business development, and supporting the wider Risk Advisory Services practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage ESG assignments end to end, including materiality reviews, ESG strategy development, and reporting work aligned to client goals and applicable regulations.
  • Guide clients on ESG and sustainability frameworks such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP, and Integrated Reporting so they can meet disclosure requirements effectively.
  • Carry out climate-related risk assessments and help identify ESG risks and opportunities that support stronger and more resilient business decisions.
  • Perform sustainability assurance procedures in accordance with ISAE 3000 and ISAE 3410, covering planning, execution, and review of non-financial information.
  • Oversee junior staff, review deliverables, and provide practical feedback and coaching to improve quality and support development.
  • Support business growth through proposal preparation, presentations, and participation in client meetings.
  • Deliver engagements on time and to a high standard while maintaining project records and managing risks and expectations proactively.
  • Assist with engagement financial administration, including billing, collections, ETD tracking, client coordination, and escalation of issues to project leaders.
  • Develop effective working relationships within the Risk Advisory Services division and with colleagues across other service lines.
  • Contribute to the development of people through supervision, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Support sustainability and risk-related thought leadership initiatives for BDO.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of post-education experience in sustainability or ESG-related work, including sustainability strategy, reporting, assurance, sustainable finance, or climate risk analysis.
  • Educational background at undergraduate or master’s level from a reputable institution in sustainability, engineering, business, environmental studies, or a related field, preferably linked to ESG and sustainability.
  • Professional certification in ESG or Sustainability is mandatory.
  • Strong working knowledge of major reporting frameworks such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, and the GHG Protocol.
  • Experience working across multiple markets or geographies.
  • Exposure to GCC markets is preferred.
  • International experience across regions will be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
