Role overview
Activate Learning is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Art Teacher to join its teaching team at City of Oxford College. The post focuses on delivering A-level Art, including Fine Art, and also includes A-level tutorial support. It is suited to a teacher who is motivated to help learners unlock their potential, strengthen important personal qualities, and become confident, independent learners for life.
Hours and contract
This is a permanent, part-time position based at City of Oxford College. The role is for 22.2 hours per week, equivalent to 0.60 FTE.
What the role involves
The successful candidate will teach and support A-level Art students, helping them develop both subject knowledge and the wider attributes needed to progress successfully into work and further study.
Person specification
Applicants should be able to inspire students and act as positive role models. Strong communication and people skills are essential, along with the ability to plan and deliver engaging, purposeful lessons to a varied student group.
Required background
The ideal candidate will hold a recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE, or an equivalent qualification, or be working towards one. A relevant professional qualification and/or degree in Art is also expected. Recent teaching experience in further education, together with a strong record of managing and tutoring student groups, is required.
Training and induction
All teaching staff receive a mandatory three-day induction when they join, whether they are experienced or new to teaching. This is designed to introduce the organisation’s mission, values, and learning-focused culture. A separate one-day introduction to teaching is also provided, covering teaching, learning, and assessment methods.
