Role Overview
The Art Studio Supervisor oversees the daily flow of the art studio reception area and helps create a polished, welcoming experience for every guest. This position combines guest service, team leadership, and operational coordination, while maintaining the hospitality, organization, and creative atmosphere associated with the Sundance brand. The role also serves as a connection point between guests, artists, and internal teams to keep studio activities running smoothly.
Schedule and Compensation
Pay starts at $18.00 per hour plus 1% commission. The role is full-time and year-round, with a schedule of 5 days per week from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Work on weekends, holidays, and special events is required when business needs call for it. This is a non-exempt hourly position.
Key Duties
- Greet visitors in a friendly manner and help them enjoy the studio experience, whether they are browsing, shopping, or attending a class.
- Oversee the day-to-day front desk and reception functions, including guest service, cleanliness, and coordination of front-end staff.
- Coach, train, and support receptionists and seasonal employees.
- Respond to guest questions and concerns with professionalism, patience, and a solution-focused approach.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the studio’s services, retail items, and overall offerings.
- Process sales through the POS system, balance and close registers, and ensure transactions are handled accurately.
- Carefully pack and ship artwork such as glass and pottery while following sustainable handling practices.
- Track inventory, assist with monthly counts and audits, and replenish supplies when needed.
- Manage phone calls, emails, and scheduling tools.
- Assist with visual displays, seasonal decorations, and event-related studio support.
- Represent the organization’s values around land preservation, environmental care, and creative expression.
Supervisory Scope
This role provides day-to-day guidance to front-line studio staff, supports onboarding and training for new team members, communicates operational needs to management, and may step in for the Art Studio Manager when necessary.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have prior experience in customer service or hospitality, ideally in a retail or arts-based setting. Strong communication and leadership ability are important, along with solid organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage several tasks independently. Comfort with computer tools such as scheduling software, POS systems, and email is required, and an interest in the arts and creative learning is essential.
Preferred Background
Experience in visual arts, art education, or studio operations is preferred. Prior work in a lead, coordinator, or supervisory position is also an advantage, as is familiarity with studio materials and practices such as ceramics and painting.
Work Conditions
The work environment may occasionally include wet or humid conditions, moving machinery, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather exposure. Noise levels are generally moderate.
