Role Overview
This is a full-time remote Accountant position supporting Ledger Lowdown with financial analysis, accounting expertise, and review of tax and regulatory developments. The role involves maintaining accounting records, completing reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and helping ensure adherence to applicable standards and regulations. You will also review accounting, tax, and finance content to confirm accuracy, identify potential issues, and assist with editorial decisions. In addition, you will work closely with content and operations teams to resolve technical questions, offer data-informed recommendations, and support internal controls and documentation in a distributed work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger and keep accounting records accurate and up to date.
- Perform account reconciliations and support the preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Review accounting, tax, and finance news for accuracy, relevance, and compliance implications.
- Spot possible risks or inconsistencies in technical content and communicate them clearly.
- Work with editorial, content, and operations teams to explain accounting concepts and resolve technical questions.
- Help strengthen internal controls and maintain clear documentation.
- Provide analytical input and practical recommendations based on financial and regulatory information.
- Carry out assigned work independently while staying aligned with the team through regular virtual communication.
Requirements
- Strong accounting fundamentals, including ledger management, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, tax rules, and compliance requirements relevant to accounting professionals.
- Ability to research complicated accounting, tax, and finance topics and explain them in clear, simple language.
- Comfort using accounting systems and common productivity tools such as Excel or similar spreadsheet software, along with cloud-based accounting platforms.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving ability with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical ideas for non-expert readers.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams online.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or an equivalent credential is an advantage.
- Background in public accounting, corporate accounting, or tax advisory is preferred.
- Interest in monitoring accounting, tax, and finance trends for a publication focused on timely news and insights.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting or Finance.
- 0-3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal ability to work with Project Managers and Department Managers.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Preferred beginner-level experience with Oracle Project Accounting Modules or a comparable ERP system.

Compensation
The estimated pay range for this role is USD 82,000 to 92,000 annually. Final compensation will depend on education, qualifications, experience, skill set, and the employee’s physical work location.
