Technical Support Analyst - Tier 1

Role overview

The County of Elgin is looking for a Technical Support Analyst, Tier 1 to join its Information Technologies team in a permanent, full-time, non-union capacity. This position is responsible for delivering frontline technical assistance to county employees and helping keep the end-user computing environment stable, secure, and dependable.

The role focuses on handling everyday IT support needs such as device, software, connectivity, and account issues, while also contributing to standard setups, technology rollouts, and service improvements. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and outside vendors to provide service that is prompt, professional, and centered on the user experience.

Compensation and work schedule

Hourly pay is listed at $36.88 to $43.14, which works out to an annual range of $67,121.60 to $78,514.80. The position is scheduled for 35 hours per week and includes one open vacancy.

Key duties

In this position, you will support day-to-day technology operations by assisting users, documenting service requests, and resolving common technical problems. You will also help with account administration, workstation deployment, equipment replacement, software installation, and peripheral configuration.

The role includes maintaining support records, asset information, and technical documentation, as well as following County IT policies, cybersecurity standards, and data protection practices. You will also take part in an on-call rotation for after-hours support of critical systems and operational incidents.

Additional responsibilities include helping users with basic training and technology guidance, escalating more complex issues to Tier 2 support, identifying recurring issues, and contributing to long-term improvements in service delivery and support processes.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, along with 2 to 4 years of practical experience in network administration, technical support, or IT infrastructure work.

Experience with LAN/WAN environments, firewalls, routers, switches, wireless networks, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows Server, and cloud-based systems such as Azure is expected. Familiarity with hybrid and virtualized environments, virtualization platforms like Hyper-V or VMware, cybersecurity basics, VPN and remote access technologies, and monitoring, backup, or automation tools will be considered beneficial.

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are also important for success in this role.
