About the role
Stage 3 Separation builds high-quality solids control systems for mud applications, helping customers manage solids efficiently, lower operating costs, and support zero- or limited-discharge solutions where needed. The company also relies on a cross-functional group of field technicians, supervisors, engineers, and scientists to recommend practical ways to improve job performance, efficiency, and cost control.
The organization’s work is guided by a strong focus on safety, collaboration, technology-led improvement, and operational integrity. This position reports to the Field Leader(s) and involves supporting mechanical processes that improve drilling operations and help recycle drilling fluid through closed-loop and related mud systems.
This is a remote field role based out of the Calgary office, with assignments across remote locations throughout Canada. It is a safety-sensitive position and includes hands-on training on Stage 3’s specialized equipment.
Working conditions
- 12-hour shifts on a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation, with schedules varying by job site.
- Shift pattern may run from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Work will be based on one or multiple project sites as assigned.
- Travel within Canada to remote locations is required.
- The role may require extended time away from home for 14 days or longer.
- Shared accommodations must be kept clean and orderly.
- Outdoor work in cold, wet, hot, and other weather conditions is expected.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with rigging up and rigging down solids control equipment.
- Operate, or learn to operate, equipment such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying systems, and pumps.
- Support services including air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water handling, fluid transfers, low-gravity solids targeting, and cuttings drying or invert recovery.
- Build working knowledge of environmental services and basic electrical principles.
- Understand drilling fluid properties and perform fluid testing such as weight, funnel viscosity, and retort analysis.
- Carry out routine maintenance and basic electrical maintenance on equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment under supervision and obtain required operating certifications.
- Maintain a clean job site using pressure washing equipment.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and follow all site safety procedures.
- Complete PJRA/JSA documents, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists as needed.
- Use company systems to enter routine information and job data.
- Work closely with team members, supervisors, and clients while building professional working relationships.
- Progress through performance evaluation and competency testing to advance from trainee to Field Level 1.
- Take on additional duties as assigned, as the role and responsibilities may change based on operational needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- A two-year associate degree or technical diploma in technology, electronics, mechanics, or a similar discipline is preferred.
- Previous solids control experience is preferred.
- At least 1 year of dewatering or water-based mud / transfer experience is preferred.
- Experience using shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying systems, and pumps is preferred.
- Prior heavy equipment experience, especially with forklifts, excavators, or wheel loaders, is preferred.
- Previous certifications such as WHMIS, H2S, CPR/First Aid, and Lockout/Tagout are preferred.
- Basic understanding of drilling fluid properties is preferred.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, are required.
- A valid provincial driver’s license, valid insurance, and a clean driving record are required.
- A valid Class 5 license in AB/BC/SK or Class G in ON, or an equivalent license elsewhere in Canada, is required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English is required.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to live away from home for rotational assignments of 14 days or more.
- Must be willing to work in a safety-sensitive environment and may need to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be capable of learning new systems, equipment, and procedures through on-the-job training.
- Must be a team-oriented, mechanically inclined problem solver with sound time management and customer-service skills.

Additional information
The company provides training before field deployment, including certification training for required equipment and safety programs. These may include H2S, WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and CPR/First Aid. Employees may also be trained and certified to operate equipment such as excavators, forklifts, or wheel loaders.
This is a safety-sensitive role, so compliance with safety standards is essential at all times. The employer may require pre-employment alcohol and drug screening by urine and/or breath analysis. The role is intended to start as a trainee position, with advancement tied to performance and competency assessments.
