This opportunity is with EllisDon in London, Ontario. What you will do
- Guide a team through project procurement, bidding, and pre-construction activities with confidence.
- Coordinate with scheduling staff to build clear, accurate, and timely project schedules that align with estimates.
- Prepare detailed and organized budgets and estimates for hard-bid, construction management, and design-build work.
- Study drawings and tender packages to fully understand the project scope and submission requirements.
- Source, compare, and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and vendors.
- After a successful bid, manage subcontractor quotations, update binder documents, and support the buy-out process.
- Track project performance and help identify value-engineering opportunities as well as possible delivery challenges.
- Spot contractual risks and issues contained in RFP documents.
- Lead pre-construction and construction management proposals, including general conditions and design fee estimates.
- Circulate subtrade quotes and budgets to the appropriate stakeholders, highlight concerns, and work with management to address bid risk.
- Keep estimating databases current with labour rates, material pricing, and historic project costs for future use.
What you need
- At least 5 to 10 years of experience in ICI estimating, or an equivalent mix of technical education and related experience.
- Strong understanding of estimating methods, strategy, construction contracts, conceptual estimating, corporate objectives, and unit pricing.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively under time pressure while coordinating work across a team.
- Comfort working independently with limited supervision.
- Hands-on experience distributing subtrade quotes, identifying risk areas, and working with management to build that risk into the bid price.
- Experience using takeoff software, especially CostX or BlueBeam.
Compensation and workplace notes
The stated salary range for this position is $70,000 to $115,000 per year.
