About the Role
Join Parsons as a Material Inspector in Abu Dhabi and contribute to the quality control of construction works by checking that delivered and used materials comply with project requirements and specifications. This role is focused on verifying, testing, documenting, and controlling materials so that site work remains aligned with approved submittals and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, sample, and confirm that incoming construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, pipes, cables, and finishing materials match approved submittals and project specifications.
- Observe and/or carry out field and laboratory testing for materials, including concrete slump and cube tests, compaction testing, rebar testing, and coating tests, in line with applicable standards.
- Evaluate material test reports from independent and project laboratories and check that the results are accurate and compliant with requirements.
- Liaise with contractors and laboratories to arrange inspections and testing on time so that construction progress is not delayed.
- Inspect how materials are stored, handled, and protected at the site to avoid damage, contamination, or deterioration.
- Segregate or reject materials that do not meet requirements and make sure corrective measures are carried out and properly recorded.
- Keep thorough records of inspections, test requests, test outcomes, non-conformance reports, and approvals related to materials.
- Support the review of material submissions, compliance certificates, mill test certificates, and other supporting documents.
- Confirm that only approved and traceable materials are used in the works and that they are properly referenced in as-built records.
- Work with construction and quality teams to address material-related concerns and recommend workable solutions.
- Contribute material status updates, testing summaries, and non-conformance information for daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Carry out additional duties relevant to the position as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A technical diploma or degree in a relevant discipline with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, or a Civil Engineering degree with at least 3 years of experience on utilities projects.
- Prior UAE experience is mandatory.
- Working knowledge of common field and laboratory test methods and the equipment used for them.
- Ability to interpret project specifications, drawings, and material submittals accurately.
- Strong record-keeping ability with careful attention to inspection and test details.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office and project reporting or record management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Awareness of local authority requirements and regional material standards.
- Certification related to materials testing or inspection, such as ACI or an equivalent local standards-body certification, is an added advantage.
- Strong collaboration and people skills for working effectively with contractors, laboratories, and client representatives.
- A proactive mindset for spotting quality issues early and helping resolve them quickly.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
