About the Role

Alberta Health Services is seeking a motivated Locksmith to join the Facility Maintenance team serving Foothills Medical Centre and the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre in Calgary. This position is suited to someone who enjoys hands-on work, values dependable facilities, and wants to contribute to patient-centered care in a large healthcare environment. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary maintenance team to keep building systems operating efficiently and safely.

What You’ll Do

In this journey-level position, you will handle installation, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs for door hardware and lock systems. You will also support the organization’s key-control program and ensure it is managed according to building codes, blueprints, standards, and established practices. The work spans architectural, mechanical, electrical, door-control, and related electronic systems.

Required Qualifications

You must have completed an accredited Journeyperson Locksmith Certificate through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Additional Requirements

• A valid Alberta Security Services and Investigators Act locksmith licence is required.
• Prior work experience in healthcare, institutional, or other large-facility settings is needed.
• Experience working in or around AHS facilities, clinical spaces, and infection-prevention procedures is expected.
• Hands-on knowledge of electronic access control, key-control software, or security hardware such as Sargent, Medeco, Best, and Assa Abloy is required.
• At least 5 years of experience installing and repairing automated control doors, revolving doors, and security systems in an institutional environment is required.
• You must be able to interpret technical drawings, door-hardware schedules, and life-safety requirements.
• Familiarity with CMMS tools such as SimpleK and e-Facilities is needed.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification is required.
• WHMIS training is required.
• Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures or energy-control practices is required.
• Fall protection and aerial lift training are required.
• You should be able to deliver strong customer service while working around clinical staff, patients, and the public.
• Professional, respectful communication in sensitive healthcare environments is essential.
• Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team are expected.
• Strong situational awareness and a consistent focus on patient and staff safety are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• AAADM certification, or equivalent automated-door manufacturer training, is an asset.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move items or equipment weighing up to 25 kg is preferred.
• Comfort with prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and ladder work is preferred.
• Ability to work in mechanical rooms, restricted spaces, and active construction areas is preferred.
• Strong record-keeping skills for work orders and key-control documentation are preferred.
