About the role
NZ Safety Blackwoods is a major New Zealand supplier of industrial and safety products and services. Because the business operates at scale across a wide range of functions, this position gives you the chance to work with teams in retail, supply chain and distribution, sales, marketing, finance, and IT.
We are looking for an HR Business Partner who is confident working alongside leaders, has a strong foundation in HR, and can support the full employee journey from hire to exit. The position may also suit an experienced HR Advisor who is ready to step into a broader partnering role with the right backing.
Reporting to the Head of People, Safety and Sustainability, you will manage your own portfolio of stakeholders, provide people support across the employee lifecycle, and contribute to transformation and people initiatives in a complex B2B environment. The role is varied, collaborative, and fast paced.
What you'll do
- Work closely with leaders and employees across different levels of the business as a trusted HR partner.
- Support employee relations matters, performance processes, talent initiatives, and culture development.
- Guide leaders through the full employment lifecycle with practical and commercially aware advice.
- Apply knowledge of New Zealand employment law in day-to-day HR decision-making.
- Contribute to people projects and broader change efforts across the organisation.
- Manage competing priorities and adapt to a multi-site, ever-changing working environment.
What we're looking for
- Strong relationship-building ability and confidence engaging with leaders and staff at all levels.
- Well-rounded HR experience with exposure to employee relations, performance, talent, and culture work.
- Good understanding of New Zealand employment legislation.
- Strong communication, influencing, and conflict-resolution skills.
- A practical, adaptable mindset suited to a busy multi-site business.
- A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.
- Experience in a multi-site organisation would be an advantage.
- HR Advisors must demonstrate readiness to operate at a business partner level and handle greater complexity.
Why join us
- Support from a grounded and approachable Senior Leadership Team that values contribution and healthy challenge.
- The chance to expand your HR depth, scope, and long-term career potential.
- Exposure to a diverse range of stakeholders, business issues, and meaningful work.
- Access to purchasing discounts, group medical schemes, and ongoing learning and development.
About our values and environment
Our strategy is guided by a values-led approach: we put customers first, act with integrity, and are bold, open, and accountable. Our employee value proposition is built around working as one team, helping people reach their potential, and embracing challenge.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is ideal for an established HR Business Partner seeking broader scope and greater impact, or for a strong HR Advisor who is ready to step up into a business partnering role.
