About the organization
Lookout Housing and Health Society provides housing along with supportive services for adults who have little or no income and very limited housing or support options. The organization aims to reduce barriers so that people facing significant challenges can access help more easily.
Role overview
The Homemaker role is based at Yukon Housing Centre in Vancouver, BC, and reports to the Site Manager. The position supports the organization’s mission and code of ethics while keeping resident and shelter spaces clean, orderly, and safe.
Work location
Yukon Housing Centre, about a 7-minute walk from Olympic Village Station.
Schedule and hours
This is a permanent full-time role. Workdays run from Tuesday to Saturday, with shifts from 09:00 to 17:00. Each shift is 7.5 hours long. Days off are consecutive, and the schedule may be adjusted with two weeks’ notice.
Compensation
The wage is $23.89 to $25.54 per hour, depending on the applicant’s length of seniority under the Collective Agreement.
Job duties
- Carry out cleaning tasks in resident rooms, shelter rooms, and shared spaces to keep them tidy and sanitary.
- Make and change beds, handle laundry, and keep general supplies and personal care items stocked and well organized.
- Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms.
- Sort and organize donated items and help coordinate the work of volunteers.
- Support clients with personal hygiene and nutrition when required.
- Stay alert and attentive throughout the workday; sleeping on shift is not allowed.
- Follow and contribute to the organization’s health and safety program.
- Maintain a clean-shaven seal area for respirator use and complete annual fit testing for a half-mask respirator as required by safety standards.
Qualifications and competencies
Candidates should have completed Grade 12 and bring at least one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and experience. A current Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate is required. Crisis Intervention Skills Training is considered an advantage. The role calls for strong independence, teamwork, organization, clear communication, sound boundaries, and the ability to work effectively with disadvantaged adults in a diverse environment. Applicants should learn quickly, stay self-motivated, and have the physical and mental capacity to handle the work. Familiarity with equipment such as laundry machines is necessary. Candidates with a history of alcohol or drug concerns must have at least two years of sobriety. A Criminal Record Clearance for the Vulnerable Sector is also required.
