About the role
University of Waikato’s Student Health Services is seeking a part-time General Practitioner to deliver high-quality, student-focused primary care. Based at the Hillcrest Campus, this position is for 30 hours per week and offers a predictable schedule with regular working hours and no after-hours duties.
You will care for a varied student population and work closely with a multidisciplinary health team to support physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. The role also includes contributing to campus-wide health promotion efforts and helping strengthen a supportive university environment.
The position suits someone who enjoys a busy, varied setting, takes a preventative and whole-person approach to care, and is open to new ideas that improve service delivery.
Pay and employment details
Remuneration follows the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) Te Whatu Ora Senior Medical and Dental Officers Collective Agreement, with pay determined by the experience, skills, and knowledge the successful candidate brings to the role.
This is a part-time role of 30 hours per week, based on the Hillcrest Campus.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective general practice care to university students.
- Deliver consultations with a student-centred and compassionate approach.
- Work in partnership with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Support holistic, preventive, inclusive, and culturally responsive care.
- Contribute to health promotion and wellbeing initiatives across the wider university community.
- Help improve service delivery through collaborative and innovative thinking.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced General Practitioner who is caring, communicative, and committed to improving young people’s wellbeing. You should be confident providing high-quality clinical care and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
A current FRNZCGP registration is required, along with strong clinical experience and the ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals. Experience supporting diverse communities and an understanding of equity and cultural responsiveness will be highly valued.
