Data Quality Analyst

Role overview

This position is a practical, hands-on data quality role centered on identifying, validating, and documenting issues in data sets. It offers a solid pathway into future roles such as Senior Data Quality Analyst, Data Quality Lead, Data Governance Analyst, or Data Analyst.

Core skills and competencies

The role calls for confident use of datasets through SQL, Excel, BI platforms, or similar analysis tools. You should be comfortable with data profiling, validation approaches, and spotting common quality problems such as missing, invalid, duplicated, inconsistent, outdated, incomplete, or non-standard records. A clear understanding of data quality dimensions, including completeness, validity, consistency, uniqueness, timeliness, accuracy, and conformity, is also important.

You will need to compare data sets, create samples, identify exceptions, and summarize findings in a structured way. Strong documentation skills are essential, especially when preparing templates, tables, issue logs, and evidence packs. The role also requires familiarity with business rules, reference data, and approved value lists, along with practical Excel skills such as formulas, filters, pivots, lookups, and data preparation functions. Basic SQL work such as filtering, joins, grouping, count checks, duplicate checks, null checks, and simple validation logic will be part of the job. Support for report validation, dashboard review, extract comparison, and testing activities is also expected. Attention to detail and the ability to raise unclear items with the right questions are key. A willingness to build knowledge in governance, metadata, data lifecycle, and data management is valued.

Responsibilities

You will carry out profiling and analysis of data using approved methods and tools, then identify issues such as missing, invalid, duplicate, inconsistent, incomplete, outdated, or non-standard data. The role includes preparing sample sets, exception lists, issue summaries, and profiling results, as well as documenting findings in a clear, organized format.

You will also help create validation rules, prepare supporting evidence, keep issue logs and trackers up to date, and assist with reconciliation and comparison work. In addition, you will support the checking of reports, dashboards, scorecards, and data extracts, and contribute to testing, retesting, and defect investigation where data evidence is needed. Escalating unclear results or unusual patterns to senior team members is part of the role, along with helping in workshops, review meetings, documentation updates, knowledge transfer, and ongoing improvement efforts.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required in Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Economics, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field. Both Arabic and English are mandatory. Candidates with 2 to 3 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, data profiling, data quality, business intelligence, data migration, data validation, or related data projects are preferred.

Fresh graduates may also be considered for junior-level opportunities if they demonstrate strong abilities in analytics, SQL, Excel, statistics, or other data-related skills.

Preferred certifications

Helpful certifications include DAMA CDMP Associate or training in Data Management Fundamentals, as well as certifications in SQL, analytics, BI, or data visualization. Foundational credentials from Microsoft, Google, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar platforms may be relevant, along with introductory Informatica Data Quality / IDMC certification and business analysis or analytics foundation certifications.
