About Rocket Lab
Rocket Lab is a full-spectrum space company that provides responsive launch services, spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, satellite components, and related solutions, all focused on expanding access to space. Its rockets and satellites support major missions around the world, including scientific research, Earth observation, climate-related missions, national security, and technology demonstrations.
The Electron rocket has become the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket each year and has placed more than 230 satellites into orbit. The company is also developing Neutron, a reusable medium-lift launch vehicle designed for larger constellation deployment. In addition, Rocket Lab’s Space Systems division engineers and manufactures satellites, payloads, and components, including hardware selected for NASA missions to the Moon and Mars, as well as parts used on the James Webb Space Telescope.
About the Role
The Machine Shop team supports Rocket Lab’s global manufacturing sites by operating advanced equipment that helps deliver satellites, satellite components, and rockets. This role contributes directly to the build process from design support through to manufacturing, using modern CNC machinery to turn engineering concepts into finished hardware.
Background from aerospace, aviation, motorsports, marine, or comparable industries is preferred, though it is not mandatory.

- Carry out all machine setup tasks, including vice and chuck changeovers.
- Set work coordinate systems, tools, loading parameters, and measurement checks.
- Monitor cutting performance and make adjustments during production as needed.
- Examine completed parts to confirm quality and accuracy.
- Perform CNC machine upkeep and maintenance as required to support production.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Hands-on CNC experience working with stainless steel, composite materials, or similar materials is strongly preferred.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Strong workmanship and quality focus.
- Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi CNC controls.
- Ability to interpret or work with CAD designs.
- Careful record keeping and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and deliver on schedule.
- Familiarity with standardized operating procedures.
Work Environment
This position suits people who enjoy collaboration, high standards, and practical problem-solving. The team works under pressure, meets demanding timelines, and focuses on delivering results. A strong sense of teamwork, resilience, and commitment to getting difficult work done is highly valued.
Important Information
For applicants interested in U.S. office roles, employment must comply with U.S. Government space technology export rules, including ITAR. Eligibility may require U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee or asylum status, or the ability to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and/or Department of Commerce.
Rocket Lab is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate or harass based on race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability, genetics, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other protected status. This policy applies to recruitment, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leave, compensation, and training.
For U.S. candidates needing a reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, a dedicated contact is provided for disability-related assistance only. Responses may take up to two business days.
For applicants in New Zealand, background checks will be completed before any offer is made. These checks include nationality verification because the role requires access to equipment and data covered by ITAR. Under these rules, candidates may be ineligible if they are not citizens of Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the European Union, or a NATO country, or if they hold an ineligible dual citizenship or nationality.
