Role overview
EQUANS is hiring a Caretaker for Wheelers Lane Primary School in Birmingham (B13 0SF). This is a permanent, full-time position based on site for 37.5 hours each week. The salary is £26,728.21 per year, along with a benefits package.
Working pattern
The schedule runs Monday to Friday, with 8-hour shifts scheduled within the school’s opening window of 6:00am to 18:00pm.
What you will be responsible for
You will help keep the school premises safe, secure, and fully available for day-to-day use. The role covers the condition of the building, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and mechanical and electrical assets.

Essential and desirable experience
- Continuous experience in facilities management services, including litter control and basic maintenance of buildings, plant, and systems is essential.
- Experience preparing risk assessments and method statements is essential.
- Previous premises upkeep or caretaking experience in an educational setting is desirable.
Skills, knowledge, and abilities
- Good understanding of health and safety principles is essential.
- Ability to organise tasks and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines is essential.
- Experience acting as a key holder and handling site access requirements is needed.
Education and qualifications
- GCSE or O Level Mathematics and English, or an equivalent qualification, is desirable.
- A relevant trade or vocational qualification is desirable.
Personal attributes
- Must be physically able to carry out caretaking duties.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Works well as part of a team and can share knowledge with others.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Flexible and willing to adapt as needed.
- Prepared to work outside normal hours when required.
- Must live within 20 minutes’ travel time of the school.
