Overview
This is a 6-month contract opportunity based in Brisbane for a Business Analyst supporting a major separation and divestment program. The position plays a key part in assessing business, process, system, data and regulatory impacts so the business can transition to a standalone Energy Solutions operation while protecting value and limiting delivery risk.
Primary purpose
The role focuses on identifying what needs to change across operating models, workflows, systems, controls, reporting and compliance, then turning those findings into practical actions that help the carve-out move forward on time and with minimal disruption.
Business and operating model analysis
- Review the current and future operating models for the affected functions, highlighting dependencies, process gaps, control impacts and transition needs required to create an independent business.
- Document links across retail, commercial, projects, systems, reporting, finance, regulatory obligations and support services, and partner with stakeholders to shape realistic separation approaches and execution sequencing.
- Assess interim and permanent transitional service arrangements where current processes, systems, data, registrations, controls or support capabilities remain tied to the broader retail environment.
- Create and keep up to date the materials needed to support delivery of the separation program, including process maps, impact assessments, requirements documents, dependency logs, decision records, options papers and action plans.
Market, regulatory and commercial analysis
- Provide analysis and support on energy market regulation, particularly for C&I customers, retail market interfaces, DER/CER participation models and the business’s regulatory context.
- Review market rules, regulatory obligations, procedures and reform activity to understand business impacts, separation consequences and future capability needs.
- Work with commercial, finance and operational teams to assess options, measure impacts, identify risks and support decisions that balance compliance, practicality, delivery timing and value preservation during the transaction.
Process, systems and requirements analysis
- Gather, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements across IT systems, operational processes, reporting, controls and customer workflows connected to the carve-out and target operating model.
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to convert operational needs into clear requirements, user stories, process designs, data definitions and solution choices that can be delivered realistically within transaction timeframes.
- Support testing, readiness and implementation tasks, including requirements traceability, verification of process outcomes, issue tracking and go-live support where needed.
Financial, data and insight support
- Complete financial, operational and data analysis when required to support internal decision-making.
- Examine data sources, business rules and reporting outputs to understand the effects of system or process changes.
- Assist in preparing management reporting and insight packs to help leaders make informed decisions.
Stakeholder engagement and delivery support
- Serve as a key point of coordination between business, IT, operations, commercial, finance, legal and regulatory stakeholders so that issues are understood, decisions are informed and actions keep moving.
- Run workshops, interviews and working sessions to remove ambiguity, test assumptions, align cross-functional stakeholders and drive practical outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Take a hands-on approach to problem solving, moving between strategy, process, systems, regulation and commercial analysis as required to maintain momentum and unblock delivery.
- Raise risks, blockers and unresolved decisions early, setting out impacts, options and recommended next steps clearly.
Working relationships
Internal stakeholders include Energy Solutions leadership, IT/Digital, Finance, Legal, HSSE, retail operations and other shared service teams involved in the carve-out.
About you
You should bring strong business analysis experience in complex, cross-functional environments, ideally including target operating model design, transformation or separation/carve-out work. A solid understanding of the Australian energy market, retail energy operations, DER/CER models and the related regulatory environment is important, along with experience in retail back-office processes and how commercial, operational, financial, regulatory and system workflows connect.
Qualifications
A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field is preferred. Certification in business analysis, project delivery or change management would be an advantage. Relevant experience in the Australian energy, utilities or retail energy sector may be accepted instead of formal qualifications where appropriate.
