Technical duties

The role involves performing non-invasive vascular investigations and related diagnostic procedures, including the following:

• Ankle-brachial and toe pressure assessments, including exercise-based testing
• Photoplethysmography
• Carotid duplex ultrasound
• Venous and arterial duplex studies for both upper and lower limbs
• Intra-operative duplex scanning
• Screening and follow-up surveillance for abdominal aortic aneurysm
• Duplex scans before and after EVAR procedures
• Duplex scans before and after AV fistula formation

Core responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the Vascular Consultants, who direct the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory, and the Chief 2 Vascular Physiologist, the successful candidate will be responsible for patient assessment, diagnostic testing, result analysis, and departmental support.

• Document patient histories accurately
• Perform investigations requested by medical staff
• Calculate, interpret, and report investigation results
• Support and monitor research activity under consultant oversight
• Maintain and care for equipment used in the Vascular Department
• Transfer patient information and results into computer systems
• Attend the weekly vascular MDT, which is compulsory

General duties

• Be available at the times and locations set by the hospital and remain on duty for as long as required
• Carry out the duties of a Basic Grade Vascular Physiologist within the hospital and at other locations as directed by the Director of Scheduled Care
• Maintain appropriate records related to the post
• Take on other duties suitable to the role as assigned by the hospital
• Stay familiar with the techniques, equipment, and procedures used in modern vascular diagnosis, treatment, and patient care, with the ability to make precise measurements being essential
