Role overview
GHD is seeking a Water Engineer to join its national water team in either Hamilton or New Plymouth. This position offers the chance to contribute to projects that improve water resilience and support communities as weather extremes such as floods, droughts, and storms become more frequent and severe.
You will be part of a collaborative group of water specialists, using broad technical capability and international experience to help deliver outcomes that are practical, community-focused, and environmentally responsible.
What you will do
- Carry out investigation, design, and delivery work across stormwater, water supply, wastewater, transport, and multidisciplinary projects.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both current and prospective clients so project goals and client expectations are met.
- Prepare detailed reports, written correspondence, and other project documentation to a high standard.
- Contribute in both office-based and site-based settings, while working with virtual teams across GHD offices in New Zealand and internationally.
- Support graduate design engineers by providing direction, mentoring, and technical guidance on projects.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will hold a relevant university degree in Civil Engineering and bring at least 5 years of experience in a related field. You should understand industry design standards and guidelines, have exposure to both public and private sector work, and be comfortable communicating clearly in writing and verbally.
Strong computer literacy is expected, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Word, along with experience using design tools such as 12D, Civil3D, AutoCAD, and GIS. The role also calls for someone who can encourage teamwork, stay organised while managing multiple priorities, meet deadlines, take initiative, and remain flexible and self-driven when challenges arise.
Working model and company information
This role follows a hybrid working approach, with in-office attendance expected three days each week to support collaboration and connection. GHD promotes equal employment opportunity and welcomes applications from people of all nationalities, genders, and cultural backgrounds.
GHD is a global professional services business focused on engineering, architecture, and construction. With more than 11,000 people across over 200 offices in five continents, the organisation is driven by its commitment to helping solve major challenges and advancing sustainable outcomes for water, energy, and urbanisation.
