Company overview
PureBites® and Primal Pet Group are Canadian-owned brands focused on premium pet nutrition and designed to complement the needs of pet specialty retailers. PureBites® is recognized for single-ingredient, freeze-dried treats that emphasize simplicity, transparency, and strong repeat purchase potential. Primal Pet Group is a leader in raw and fresh nutrition, offering innovative and responsibly sourced products that align with premium feeding trends and rising consumer demand. Together, the two brands create a well-rounded premium assortment that supports everything from everyday feeding to higher-value treats, helping retailers grow basket size, purchase frequency, and customer loyalty.
This opportunity goes beyond traditional sales. It is suited to someone who wants to represent respected brands while supporting independent pet retailers through hands-on service, in-store education, and a true partnership approach.
Role summary
The company is looking for a driven, self-directed Territory Manager to help expand growth and improve in-store execution across Eastern Canada. This is a field-based position rather than a desk-based one. Most of the time will be spent on the road within the territory, visiting stores, supporting retail teams, working with distributor representatives, and developing business through steady account management and new customer acquisition. The right candidate will run the territory like a business of their own, combining strategic planning with strong day-to-day execution.
Key responsibilities
- Build, expand, and maintain relationships with both prospective and existing customers to grow sales for both brands.
- Implement a territory plan that supports revenue growth, profitability, brand development, and wider market awareness.
- Identify, pursue, and open new independent pet specialty accounts while helping with onboarding, assortment setup, and initial order execution.
- Introduce new products, seasonal initiatives, and promotions to increase distribution and sales velocity.
- Conduct regular store visits on a recurring route schedule, with weekly, monthly, and quarterly coverage based on account importance.
- Help retailers with merchandising, purchasing, replenishment planning, and maintaining strong in-store visibility.
- Ensure products are positioned correctly, the brand is presented strongly, and shelf execution is supported through staff engagement.
- Address customer concerns and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Train retailer teams in person and by phone on product benefits and how to confidently communicate them to shoppers.
- Provide education on nutrition and product use that supports both Primal feeding conversations and PureBites treat recommendations.
- Work closely with distributor sales teams to open, service, and grow accounts.
- Arrange ride-alongs, territory planning discussions, and brand training sessions with distributor representatives.
- Support distributor reps continuously so they become more confident with closing, selling, and executing in the market.
- Support key accounts and regional chains through joint business plans, promotional execution, and new item rollouts.
- Prioritize accounts using an A/B/C framework based on current and potential revenue, service cost, and likelihood of success, then allocate time accordingly.
- Maintain accurate customer information and activity logs using company systems and CRM tools.
- Contribute to forecasting and sales planning to help guide production and inventory decisions.
- Manage expenses within approved limits and submit reports on time.
- Set aside regular weekly time for administration, reporting, planning, and internal coordination.
- Represent the brands at trade shows, industry gatherings, and in-store promotional events as needed.
- Be available for occasional evenings and weekends when event schedules require it.
- Travel extensively across Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes, with frequent overnight stays and substantial time spent in stores.
Qualifications and skills
- Three to five years of sales experience is required; experience in pet specialty or pet food is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships, influence decisions in-store, and win new business.
- Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities.
- Excellent organization skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities with limited supervision.
- Comfort working independently in a fast-moving environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, along with comfort using CRM systems.
- Bilingual ability in English and French is strongly preferred and may be necessary depending on territory coverage.
Perks and benefits
- Competitive base pay with commission and bonus upside.
- Dental, vision, and supplemental coverage.
- Supportive team culture.
- Product discounts for employees’ pets.
- Additional employee benefits and perks may be available.
Travel and work schedule
The territory covers Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. The role requires extensive travel, estimated at 70% to 80%, including overnight travel that may reach up to four nights per week. Because this is a highly field-oriented position, consistent in-store presence and hands-on support are essential. The schedule may also include evenings and weekends depending on event requirements.
Additional information
This position is best suited to someone who enjoys building business in the field, supporting retailer success, and representing premium pet brands with a high level of ownership and accountability.
