Technical Writer

Overview

Handshake is looking for seasoned technical writers and documentation specialists to help train and evaluate AI research outputs through flexible hourly contract work. This opportunity is not a conventional full-time role in technical writing, documentation, or content creation. Instead, you will use your professional background in drafting, editing, and improving technical materials to assess AI-produced content and share feedback that supports clearer, more accurate, and more approachable technical communication.

Your work will contribute to strengthening AI performance in areas such as technical correctness, document organization, clarity, consistency, voice, tone, and adherence to professional writing expectations.

This is a project-based, ongoing engagement that can be completed alongside your primary job.

Role details

• The assignment focuses on applying your practical experience and familiarity with the tools you use in day-to-day work to create high-quality training data and review AI-generated answers for accuracy and usefulness.
• No previous AI experience is needed.
• The role is fully remote and follows a flexible, asynchronous schedule, with no minimum hourly commitment. During active projects, most contributors spend around 5 to 20 hours per week.
• Participation depends on current project demand, and candidates may also be considered for future opportunities as they open up.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in technical writing, product marketing, or a similar writing or editorial position.
• Hands-on experience producing original technical content, revising drafts, and adjusting voice and tone for different audiences.
• Excellent written communication skills and a sharp eye for detail.
• Ability to work on your own while carefully following written instructions.
• Professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive or proprietary information responsibly.
• No prior background in AI or technical fields is required.
