Role overview

This is an interview-based opening for a senior courier role in Kentville, Nova Scotia. The position involves driving company vehicles to complete package deliveries and pickups, while working in a floating coverage capacity across at least 15 routes rather than being tied to one regular route.

The role also includes helping set the standard for hourly team members by acting as a mentor and positive example, with an emphasis on clear communication, conflict handling, and leadership using best-practice methods. In addition, the courier is expected to support sales efforts and look for opportunities to create incremental revenue wherever possible.

Education and experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should bring at least six months of prior courier experience and be able to adapt quickly to the duties of the job.

Required knowledge and capabilities

Applicants must have a valid driver’s licence and a strong driving record. They should be able to complete all initial and refresher training, including Dangerous Goods certification, and keep that accreditation current through annual recurrency training. The role also requires the ability to obtain and maintain FedEx Dangerous Goods Specialist certification.

A working understanding of FedEx products, service features, and general operations is important. Knowledge of Federal Express operations and Canadian customs rules would be an advantage. In Quebec, bilingual ability in French and English is mandatory.

The job also calls for excellent customer relations, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with solid analytical thinking, problem-solving, prioritization, and organization abilities. Candidates must be able to lift 70 lbs and handle packages weighing up to 150 lbs when using the proper equipment.

Additional notes

People in this position do not have permanently assigned routes. They provide backup coverage for open routes when the regular courier is unavailable.

The need for a DG specialist depends on the size and location of the station, and senior management may override this requirement if needed.
