Role overview
Ventia is hiring a Range Operator to support defence training activities at the Bindoon Training Area in Western Australia. This is a practical, outdoor-focused position that contributes to the safe and efficient running of the training range.
About the contract
Ventia works in partnership with the Department of Defence, delivering integrated support for defence infrastructure and asset management. The role sits within a long-running contract supporting Australia’s Defence community.
Key duties
In this role, you will help prepare ranges for customer use, keep live-fire target systems operating effectively, and take part in health, safety and environment inspections as well as land management work. You will also contribute to bushfire response activities to help protect people, property and the environment.
The position includes hands-on work such as manufacturing and repairing targets, maintaining compliance with Range Standing Orders, and supporting Ventia’s safety standards and company values.

- Pay of $30.00 to $33.43 per hour, depending on experience, plus any applicable allowances
- Work-use vehicle provided
- Main work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

About you
Ventia is looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors and can contribute positively to a team environment. Experience in grounds work, land management, or a defence-related role would be an advantage. Bush firefighting qualifications and a First Aid certificate are also desirable.
You should be comfortable using tools and equipment for range operations, have basic MS Office skills, and be capable of reading maps and navigating by vehicle. Strong teamwork, integrity, and a mindset of continuous improvement are important for success in this role.
Eligibility and security requirements
Applicants must be eligible to obtain a Defence Security Clearance. This means the candidate must be an Australian citizen and willing to complete and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police check.
