Principal Software Engineer

Role Overview

This is a senior, strategic, and highly hands-on position that combines technical leadership with day-to-day delivery. You will contribute directly to important outcomes, mentor team members, and manage a Staff Engineer who reports to you.

As the most senior technical individual contributor in the engineering function, you will help set the standard for technical quality, innovation, and execution across the organisation. The role calls for a blend of deep engineering expertise, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal awareness.

You will partner closely with the CTO and the Founding Chief Technologist to influence how the product evolves, scales, and continues to serve a worldwide customer base. This position suits someone who enjoys solving complex problems, removing obstacles, clarifying direction, and enabling a capable team to deliver great outcomes.

Key Impact Areas

• Work with senior leaders across engineering, product, and UX to design technical solutions that are scalable, secure, and dependable across frontend, backend, and cloud environments.
• Remain close to the codebase by developing software, carrying out research, and building prototypes or proof-of-concepts that can inform broader adoption. Use modern AI tools and technologies where they can improve speed, quality, and innovation.
• Model high standards in software design, engineering practices, and operational discipline, while coaching other engineers to adopt strong standards and a collaborative mindset.
• Support and develop your direct report through coaching, feedback, performance conversations, and goal setting, while also contributing to a strong team culture.
• Make sure implementation choices are aligned with the company’s technology vision and longer-term strategic objectives.

Experience and Technical Strength

The ideal candidate has substantial experience building and leading complex technical solutions, particularly in fast-moving SaaS or scale-up environments. You should be comfortable balancing future architecture decisions with practical delivery needs.

• At least 8 years of experience designing, building, and managing complex systems.
• Strong practical knowledge of modern SaaS and AI-enabled technology stacks, including C#, TypeScript, and current frontend frameworks such as React.
• Solid grasp of cloud architecture, multi-tenant systems, distributed applications, and DevOps practices.
• Experience setting, applying, and upholding architecture, coding, and security standards.
• A strong ownership mindset with the ability to solve problems end to end.
• A collaborative, curious approach that values thoughtful decision-making and respects different viewpoints.
