About the role
The Edge & Network Service team at Meta is hiring a network operations and support specialist to help solve complex large-scale infrastructure challenges and support the company’s mission of connecting people worldwide. This group serves as the operational backbone for production networks across Edge, Backbone, Optical, Labs, and the global Content Delivery Network. The environment is highly global and hands-on, offering exposure to modern networking technologies and difficult operational problems.
What you will do
- Lead investigations during major incidents and site events involving edge, caching, and network infrastructure, working across reliability, security, and continuity areas in coordination with internal partners, service providers, and external vendors.
- Take part in the global Tier 3 and Tier 4 on-call rotation, helping route issues, spot opportunities to improve processes and tooling, and reduce repeat escalations through better automation and skill development.
- Collaborate with partner teams to make sure network design, deployment, and operations align with reliability, security, privacy, regulatory, and business continuity requirements.
- Maintain accurate operational documentation, procedures, policies, and supporting data so the information used to run operations stays complete and reliable.
- Identify automation opportunities from operational events and help move the team toward software-driven remediation; this may include building lightweight solutions in code and helping others shape their roadmaps.
- Improve reporting quality by analyzing escalation trends, fault patterns, capacity data, and vendor performance issues to focus efforts where they create the most value.
- Drive operational standards and improvements across the network while indirectly coordinating a large contingent workforce that handles recurring tasks and roadmap execution.
- Contribute to compliance with network standards and policies across the team’s operating model.
What we are looking for
- Strong troubleshooting knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, and/or MPLS in complex environments.
- Professional-level Cisco and Juniper expertise, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- At least 10 years of experience in global network or infrastructure operations, deployment, design/engineering, and/or support.
- At least 10 years of experience working with vendors and service providers, including network hardware, ITAD, logistics, and colocation partners, and turning performance issues into improvement plans.
- Experience defining the right metrics to measure success and prove business impact.
- Background in purchasing, negotiation, supplier management, global RFPs, and contract discussions.
- Proven ability to work across global teams and partner with functions such as infrastructure, network design, engineering, strategy, security, policy, and legal.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and translate strategy into execution.
- Basic programming skills and familiarity with automation using languages such as Python, Go, or JavaScript.
- Preferred: 5 years of logical troubleshooting and physical repair experience, with knowledge of cabling, connectors, optics, racks, patch panels, power, cooling, hardware, and facilities infrastructure.
- Preferred: Experience leading digital transformation work at a practitioner level.
- Preferred: Basic understanding of data-driven analysis and tools such as machine learning or predictive modeling to solve business problems.
- Preferred: Ability to use AI tools to redesign workflows and deliver measurable improvements in efficiency or quality.
- Preferred: Familiarity with responsible and ethical AI practices, including risk review, bias mitigation, and quality checks.
- Preferred: Ongoing development in AI-related skills such as prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration.
