Role Summary
This onsite HR Generalist position is based in Washington, DC and supports the company’s everyday human resources operations. The role covers recruiting coordination, payroll support, onboarding and offboarding, employee records, compliance, and general HR administration.
The position also involves helping with benefits and leave administration, maintaining accurate HR documentation, supporting time and attendance tracking, handling employee communications, preparing HR reports, and responding to routine employee questions. In addition, the role may contribute to training coordination, performance review cycles, engagement activities, and other HR initiatives as needed.
Key Duties
- Assist with recruiting tasks such as posting roles, reviewing resumes, setting up interviews, following up with candidates, and conducting reference checks.
- Coordinate new hire onboarding, including paperwork, system access setup, orientation support, and compliance-related documents.
- Support offboarding activities, including exit paperwork, completion of final tasks, return of equipment, and record updates.
- Keep personnel files and HR records organized, current, and confidential.
- Help with payroll-related work by tracking time and attendance, checking payroll information, and coordinating with finance teams or outside payroll vendors.
- Support benefits administration, leave tracking, and employee questions related to policies or benefits.
- Maintain HR systems and spreadsheets for employee data, recruiting activity, compliance tracking, and HR metrics.
- Draft HR reports and assist with audits, compliance checks, and document requests.
- Respond to employee and manager questions promptly and professionally.
- Assist with training coordination, performance reviews, employee engagement efforts, and other HR projects.
- Help update HR policies, procedures, forms, and internal communications.
- Carry out additional HR and administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications
Applicants should have experience supporting core HR functions such as recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, employee records management, and day-to-day HR administration. A working understanding of employment laws and compliance practices is important, along with experience maintaining documentation that is ready for audits.
Experience with payroll coordination, time tracking, benefits administration, and leave administration is also needed. Candidates should be comfortable using HRIS or HR management systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools, and should bring strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
The role calls for someone who can support employees and managers across the organization, stay organized under competing priorities, and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Prior exposure to recruitment support, including job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication, is preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent education and relevant experience may also be considered. SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus. Experience in real estate, facilities, logistics, government contracting, or professional services is also advantageous.
