Position summary
The Housekeeper/Driver works under the guidance of the Environmental Services Manager or an assigned delegate to help create and maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable setting for residents, visitors, and employees. In addition to housekeeping duties, this role coordinates resident transportation so that trips to medical visits, recreational events, and other off-site activities are completed safely, on time, and in line with all relevant federal, state, and local rules.
Key duties
- Carry out routine to intensive housekeeping tasks in resident homes and shared spaces, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, and caring for floors.
- Handle laundry work such as collecting, washing, folding, and delivering residents’ clothing and linens.
- Perform deeper cleaning of apartments when residents move out.
- Remove garbage and recyclables and keep assigned areas tidy.
- Promptly communicate repair needs, including issues with lighting or equipment.
- Maintain a sanitary, safe environment while following infection prevention practices and universal precautions.
- Transport residents safely and dependably to appointments, shopping trips, and community activities.
- Build and manage daily and weekly transportation plans, including appointment records and recurring group outings.
- Work closely with residents, team members, and outside partners to keep transportation running smoothly and on schedule.
- Help residents with mobility limitations by assisting with boarding, securing mobility aids, and supporting their safety during travel.
- Observe residents during transport and escalate any health or safety concerns to the right staff members.
- Keep vehicles ready for use by cleaning them, refueling, arranging preventive maintenance, and maintaining mileage and usage records.
- Partner with leadership and coworkers to strengthen transportation workflows and arrange backup transport when necessary.
- Assist with organizing staff support for resident appointments when needed.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and universal precaution standards.
- Treat residents with courtesy and respect, protecting privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Stay attentive to resident needs and take initiative to help create a warm and welcoming environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean, safe driving history.
- Prior experience in assisted living or serving older adults is preferred.
- Strong customer service, communication, and people skills.
- Ability to work independently in a busy, team-based setting.
- Comfort and ability to help residents transfer on and off a bus and accompany them into appointments or other destinations as needed.
- Basic computer knowledge and solid organizational skills.
