About the company

This role sits within a well-established food production organisation that manages the full journey from breeding and production through to processing and packaging. The business places strong emphasis on product quality, efficient operations, and ongoing improvement.

Role overview

As the Hatchery Manager, you will report to the Breeder Hatchery Manager and oversee the hatchery’s daily activity. You will be accountable for guiding the team, maintaining output quality, and ensuring all compliance and biosecurity requirements are followed.

Core duties

  • Run the hatchery on a day-to-day basis, covering egg intake, incubation, transfer, and dispatch.
  • Plan staff rotas, distribute workloads, and support strong team performance across the department.
  • Track egg stock, incoming deliveries, and production volumes.
  • Ensure day-old stock is produced and dispatched to the required quality and operational standards.
  • Oversee departmental budgeting and look for ways to improve cost efficiency.
  • Coordinate maintenance work and contribute to preventative maintenance plans.
  • Apply company procedures consistently, including hatchery standards and biosecurity controls.
  • Review performance at each stage of the process, from egg receipt to final dispatch.
  • Work with supply farms and production teams on quality issues and operational performance.
  • Support continuous improvement activity across the site.

Working pattern

The working hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. This position also requires being on call when needed.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in a hatchery or a similar production setting is essential.
  • Previous exposure to supervising or managing a team is required.
  • A qualification in animal science, agriculture, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong planning and organisational ability, with the capacity to manage several priorities at once.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence to work autonomously and make decisions in a busy, fast-moving environment.
  • A full, clean driving licence is required.
  • Must be willing and able to live close to the site.

What’s on offer

You will join a growing and forward-looking organisation, take full responsibility for an important function, and have the chance to improve processes while making a real contribution to performance.
