Fibre Technician

Role overview

Stowe Australia is inviting experienced Fibre Technicians to register interest for upcoming project work across Melbourne, Adelaide, and the Northern Territory. The position is based out of the Melbourne office and includes travel to project sites as needed.

The work is organised on a 3-week rotating roster, and all travel as well as living-away-from-home expenses are covered by the employer.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fibre optic splicing and jointing tasks.
• Build connectors and complete fibre terminations, including polishing and finishing the end face.
• Carry out testing and diagnose faults in fibre networks.
• Prepare fibre and manage cable handling activities.
• Pull and haul cable over extended distances.
• Deliver work to a strong standard of quality, safety, and workmanship on site.
• Adapt to different job sites, project settings, and remote work locations.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, project teams, and clients.

Preferred experience and qualifications

Candidates should be confident in fibre splicing, connector assembly, fibre termination, connector polishing, end-face finishing, testing, preparation, and long-distance cable hauling. Prior work on construction, communications, or infrastructure projects is valued, along with the ability to work away from home on a rostered basis and a strong focus on safety and quality.

The following are required or highly regarded: current White Card/Construction Induction, current driver’s licence, and either ACMA Open Cabling Registration or a relevant telecommunications qualification. Additional desirable credentials include Cert III in Telecommunications or equivalent, Cert III Electrical or A Grade Electrical Licence, experience in remote or regional locations, work on major communications/defence/utilities/infrastructure projects, First Aid certification, and tickets such as EWP or Working at Heights.
