Driver - Class 2

Role overview

Higgins Wellington has won a major new piece of work: the Wellington City Council Road Maintenance Contract. To support this contract, the team is expanding and is looking for Class 2 Drivers to join the Wellington branch.

What the role involves

This position suits someone with experience in roading and civil transport work. You will be expected to operate heavy trucks confidently, handle the loading and unloading of specialist roading machinery and materials, and work in a practical, hands-on environment. A solid grasp of road construction methods is important, along with experience in metal spreading and understanding how the asphalt supply chain operates. When needed, you will also assist the crew with general labouring tasks.

Key duties

• Operate heavy trucks within civil and roading environments.
• Load and unload specialised roading equipment and materials.
• Apply knowledge of road construction processes on the job.
• Support metal spreading activities.
• Assist with work linked to the asphalt supply chain.
• Carry out labouring duties to help the crew when required.

What you need

• A full Class 2 licence is required.
• A Class 4 licence would be an advantage.
• STMS certification is preferred.
• WTR endorsement is an added plus.
• Background in civil construction or road maintenance.
• Availability for on-call rostered work.
• RAMM familiarity would be useful, though it is not essential.
• A flexible, dependable attitude and willingness to work in all conditions.
