Job summary

The Day Tool Pusher is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all drilling activity during the day shift. The role focuses on completing the well safely and efficiently while working closely with the OIM and maintaining control over personnel safety, environmental protection, and equipment integrity.

Drilling operations

  • Safeguard people, machinery, and operational efficiency across the drill floor and related drilling areas.
  • Organize and sequence drilling and related tasks, guiding the crew to deliver the required performance in line with client expectations.
  • Make sure any change from the approved well plan is cleared by the OIM and formally recorded by the client representative.
  • Coordinate with the OIM, Night Tool Pusher, and client representative on drilling progress and keep the driller updated on objectives and plan changes.
  • Take over from the driller at the console whenever operational needs require it.
  • Plan ahead so the right tools, materials, and equipment are in place for the next drilling or workover stage.
  • Support and supervise the drilling crew on location at all times, including during circulating, tripping, BHA work, and hole trouble situations.
  • Operate within company drilling and well control manuals and review/approve all drilling-related permits to work.

Well control

  • Ensure well control measures are implemented in line with operational needs and assist with well-killing activities when required.
  • Monitor well control parameters closely to spot warning signs early and react quickly to potential issues.
  • Keep well control equipment maintained and tested according to company and client standards so it remains ready for emergency use.
  • Carry out well control calculations such as mud weight increases, initial and final circulating pressures, and stroke counts.

Emergency response

Rig move

  • Carry out tasks needed to prepare the rig for towing and ensure the cantilever, rig floor, and drilling equipment are secured properly before the rig move.

Client management

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with other departments, third-party personnel, and client representatives.
  • Handle client requests related to materials, equipment, and manpower once the appropriate management approval has been obtained.

Reporting and documentation

  • Maintain complete logs and records and submit required reports on time in line with company and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare accurate daily drilling reports, equipment status updates, and incident reports to capture operational activity and performance.

People management and development

  • Give the team clear direction on duties, responsibilities, and safety precautions before work begins.
  • Coach, develop, and train team members to support safe and effective operations.
  • Identify opportunities for career growth and help build the team’s professional capability.
