Position Summary
This role is for a seasoned data analytics professional who can create and deliver enterprise BI and analytics solutions on Microsoft technologies. You will partner with business stakeholders, data architects, ETL developers, and technical teams to turn complex requirements into actionable insights, interactive reporting, and advanced analytical products that inform both strategic and day-to-day decisions.
The position calls for deep hands-on capability with Power BI, SQL, DAX, Power Query, ETL, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, data modeling, statistical methods, and business intelligence development in a Microsoft ecosystem. Background in the Ontario Public Service or another public sector setting is an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the architecture, build, and rollout of BI and analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI.
- Work with business users and stakeholders to capture reporting and analytics needs.
- Produce interactive dashboards, scorecards, KPI reports, and executive-level reporting tools.
- Examine large and complex datasets to surface patterns, trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
- Create and maintain dimensional data models, including fact tables, dimension tables, and star schema structures.
- Develop and support ETL pipelines with SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
- Handle extraction, cleansing, transformation, validation, and consolidation of data from multiple structured and unstructured sources.
- Build advanced DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and reusable reporting assets.
- Develop statistical models, machine learning approaches, and predictive analytics solutions that support evidence-based decisions.
- Deliver reports through Power BI Service and Power BI Server while keeping security, scalability, and performance in mind.
- Apply row-level security, manage workspaces, and follow best practices for report publishing and deployment.
- Work alongside Data Architects, Business Analysts, ETL Developers, Project Managers, and other teams to deliver complete BI solutions.
- Take part in testing, user acceptance testing, release activities, documentation, and training for end users.
- Prepare technical documents, design specs, user manuals, and knowledge transfer materials.
- Make sure outputs follow GO-ITS standards, organizational policies, and approved development methods.
- Assist with production deployments, infrastructure changes, and ongoing support/maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience building business intelligence and analytics solutions.
- Strong command of Microsoft Power BI, including dashboard creation, report design, and visual storytelling.
- Advanced working knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M), and sophisticated Power BI development.
- High-level SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, reporting, and query tuning.
- Experience designing dimensional models such as star schemas with fact and dimension tables.
- Practical ETL development experience using SSIS and Azure Data Factory.
- Exposure to Microsoft BI tools such as SSAS, SSRS, SQL Server, SSMS, and Visual Studio.
- Understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, predictive analytics, and NLP.
- Experience with enterprise-scale data warehouses and complex relational databases.
- Solid grasp of data governance, data quality, and information management principles.
- Experience with Power BI Service, Power BI Server, workspace administration, dataset publishing, and RLS.
- Ability to integrate data from multiple enterprise systems and cloud platforms.
- Proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language for analytics and automation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in the Ontario Public Service or another public sector environment.
- Familiarity with GO-ITS standards and government operating contexts.
- Exposure to Azure DevOps, SharePoint, and formal enterprise documentation practices.
- Experience supporting BI, analytics, and reporting programs in large and complex organizations.
