Role overview

This contract role is for a highly analytical Data Analyst based in Toronto, ON, with a 6-month term and the possibility of extension. The position is centered on turning complex datasets into practical insights that help guide business decisions and support growth. You will take ownership of key dashboards, analytics workstreams, and data-focused initiatives while working closely with stakeholders across the business.

In this role, you will act as an analytics partner to business teams, helping define priorities, resolve unclear requests, and deliver insights that make a measurable difference to performance. The job calls for strong business sense, technical depth, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of important business dashboards, keeping them current, reliable, and useful, and serve as the main link between business users and analytics or data engineering teams.
• Look for ways to improve dashboard usability, reporting precision, and underlying data quality.
• Manage analytics initiatives from start to finish by setting priorities, clarifying ambiguous asks, shaping timelines, and ensuring on-time delivery.
• Carry out advanced ad hoc analysis in SQL, including customer segmentation, cohort analysis, funnel analysis, and root-cause investigation.
• Convert analytical results into practical recommendations that can inform business strategy and execution.
• Design, improve, and support scalable Tableau dashboards for KPI tracking, business health reporting, and funnel visibility.
• Present insights in a way that resonates with both technical and business audiences, including senior leaders, through strong storytelling and data visualization.
• Use data to guide decisions by turning complex information into clear business narratives.

Required qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative discipline is required.
• 3 to 6 years of experience in data analysis or business analysis, with increasing responsibility and complexity over time.
• Advanced SQL ability, including complex joins, window functions, common table expressions, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience building and supporting production dashboards in Tableau.
• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, advanced formulas, and working with large datasets.
• Working knowledge of Python for analysis, scripting, and automation tasks.
• Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working through ambiguous business issues independently.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain insights clearly to business stakeholders.
• Proven ownership of projects and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
• Experience working cross-functionally with analytics, product, engineering, and business teams.

Preferred qualifications

• A master’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related area is an advantage.
• Background in A/B testing, experimentation design, and performance measurement is preferred.
• Prior exposure to e-commerce, product analytics, marketing analytics, or customer analytics would be valuable.
• Familiarity with data engineering concepts, including data pipelines and data quality management, is helpful.

This position is expected to run for 6 months and may be extended beyond the initial term.
