Role overview

The Assistant, Materials is responsible for overseeing and guiding assigned Mobile Equipment Operators and Riggers engaged in moving, collecting, and handling materials at the Base and Quayside. The role ensures all material movement tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on time, with the right equipment and manpower in place, and in line with procedures and HSE standards.

Key accountabilities

• Receive instructions from the Senior Supervisor, review the job scope, determine equipment needs, arrange the required resources, request the correct lifting and moving equipment and vehicles, plan the task, and brief the assigned Mobile Equipment Operators and Riggers.
• Oversee shifting and collection activities involving movement of materials between the jetty, tenant warehouses, yards, and holding areas. Typical items include drill pipes, casing, tools, chemicals, pallets, cargo cases, baskets, and oil/petrol/fuel drums, including sensitive and high-value equipment.
• Follow company safety rules while performing duties, use the required protective gear, report unsafe conditions or unsafe work practices to the Senior Supervisor, take part in assigned safety and fire-fighting drills, and immediately report accidents, equipment damage, malfunctions, or hazards.
• Work alongside Mobile Equipment Operators for cranes, forklifts, and tractors to support material handling tasks, such as securing loads with shackles, positioning loads for accurate forklift handling, fastening cargo onto trucks or vessels, and giving hand signals to operators.
• Ensure all Base and Quayside activities comply with health, safety, security, and environment policies, procedures, and guidelines. Make sure safety rules are explained to operators, protective equipment is available, safety notices are visible, and accidents or incidents are investigated and analyzed so preventive actions can be applied.
• Monitor shifting and collection work during the shift to confirm that operations are completed according to company rules and standards, and verify that staff safety gear is available and used correctly.
• Respond to tenant requests and service orders for manpower and equipment by allocating the necessary resources and completing the required source documentation.

Requirements

• High school certificate.
• At least 6 years of experience in general cargo handling operations, with some exposure to oil well tools and materials.
• Valid UAE driving license for light vehicles.
• Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Working knowledge of ILMS source documentation and tariff processes.
