Assistant Manager (Business Development) - Estimation

Role Overview

Larsen & Toubro is looking for an Assistant Manager in Business Development with a focus on estimation for shipbuilding and ship repair projects. The position involves building accurate commercial and technical cost estimates, preparing bids, and supporting proposal work for both new construction and repair/refit opportunities.

New Build Estimation

• Examine tender papers, general arrangement drawings, technical specifications, and client inputs to understand project scope.
• Develop comprehensive cost estimates for new vessel construction across hull, machinery, outfitting, electrical, and related systems.
• Calculate steel weight, equipment pricing, fabrication effort, and yard overheads.
• Work closely with design, planning, and production teams to gather correct inputs for estimation.
• Collect quotations from OEMs, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Draft commercial proposals, bid submissions, and detailed price breakups.
• Assess project risks and include suitable contingencies in shipbuilding estimates.

Ship Repair and Refit Estimation

This role also covers estimation support for repair and refit work. You will review repair scope documents, inspection findings, and dry dock requirements before building cost proposals.

• Estimate the cost of hull repairs, machinery overhauls, piping work, electrical activities, blasting and painting, and steel renewal.
• Coordinate with vendors to secure repair quotations and service pricing.
• Prepare quotations for repairs, variation estimates, and pricing for additional work.
• Assist the project team during execution by tracking and monitoring costs.
