Role Overview

This contract SDET role is based in Toronto, Ontario, with an onsite presence required three days per week. The position focuses on validating data end to end, designing tests, and executing quality checks across connected systems such as APIs, databases, and microservices. You will also help build and maintain automation coverage, strengthen quality engineering practices early in the development cycle, and support testing within CI/CD workflows.

Work Arrangement

Location: Toronto, ON. The role follows an onsite model with attendance required three times per week.

Compensation

Pay rate: CAD 40 per hour, inclusive.

Candidates should be available for a face-to-face interview conducted onsite only.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out end-to-end data checks across upstream and downstream systems, including APIs, databases, and microservices.
• Verify data transformations, migrations, and source-to-target reconciliation across platforms.
• Use SQL for backend validation to confirm data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Support testing for data migrations and coexistence between legacy and modernized systems.
• Review user stories and take part in test design to define functional and data-oriented scenarios.
• Prepare and maintain test cases for expected flows, negative paths, and boundary conditions.
• Perform functional, integration, and business process testing, including API and microservices validation.
• Track defects through the full lifecycle, from logging and triage to verification and closure.
• Create and sustain automation frameworks for UI, API, and data validation.
• Develop automation using Java or Python-based frameworks aligned with the quality engineering environment.
• Integrate automated tests into sprint cycles and keep regression suites current.
• Support automated execution within CI/CD pipelines.
• Test API contracts, integrations, and message movement across distributed systems.
• Validate Kafka and other event-driven message flows, ensuring reliable data exchange between services.
• Promote shift-left testing by embedding quality checks earlier in the SDLC.
• Collaborate with development teams to make sure testing coverage is built into delivery pipelines.
• Use AI-enabled or automation tools to improve test design, test case generation, and automation reach.
